2010 Thoroughbred Club Stakes Nominations

October 5th, 2010

Caulfield Racecourse will come alive this Saturday with Caulfield Guineas Day featuring an elite line-up of races including the $125,000 Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).

The 2010 Thoroughbred Club Stakes nominations have drawn 23 three-year-old fillies vying for a spot in the 16-horse final field for Saturday’s showdown.

Early favourites to win this year’s Thoroughbred Club Stakes include Military Rose, Shaaheq and Lone Rock.

Gillian Heinrich’s top Queensland filly Military Rose looked impressive second-up at Moonee Valley in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes finishing second to Lone Rock, the Magic Millions winner looking to return to form with a big run on Saturday.

The filly that beat Military Rose in the Champagne last start, Lone Rock is also backing up in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes on Saturday.

Robert Smerdon’s well-bred daughter of Fastnet Rock was a surprise victor in the Champagne, going out as a $20 chance first-up before stealing the show.

The punters are sure to be behind her again here as she seeks her third career win from just six starts.

David Hayes’ Redoute’s Choice three-year-old Shaaheq is the other top rated entry for Saturday set to start at the high end of the betting markets.

Other notable fillies entered for the Thoroughbred Club Stakes include Michael Moroney’s last start Flemington winner Across The Moon, consistent Choisir filly Jesse’s Girl coming off a last start second in the Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley and John O’Shea’s Solar Charged looking to improve after a disappointing ninth in the Champagne Stakes.

Saturday’s meeting at Caulfield is headlined by the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) where Toorak Toff is set to start the favourite.

Other highlights of the day include the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (1600m) where Cox Plate star So You Think has his next start and the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m).

The 2010 Thoroughbred Club Stakes final field will be released later in the week and published right here so bookmark this site.
