Platelet’s boosted her residual value no end when winning the 2011 Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Darren Weir-trained filly, with an impressive change of gears, exchanged the smaller black type for the capital letters when defeating The Fairy’s Kiss by ¾ lengths with Hollywierd six lengths adrift in third place.
The win was much deserved as Platelet previously raced on five occasions rsultings in a maiden win at Geelong prior to three city-placings.
She put the writing on the wall just a week before second to Miss Stellabelle in the 2011 Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 30.
Weir gave Platelet, a daughter of Strategic, an easy time at the stable due to the quick back up.
“I didn’t do much with her during the week, she spent a couple of days in a grass paddock and she looked to be in good order so I decided to back her up,” he said.
After some early difficulties, Weir explained that Platelet beome a model of obidience.
“Early days we had a lot of barrier troubles and once we got on top of them she turned the corner”, he said.
Her owners the Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock Pty Ltd now have a horse whose progeny will generate good dollars.
