Just nine three-year-old fillies have been confirmed for this weekend’s Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse, offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
While yet to hit peak condition in two starts through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, classy sprinter Earthquake has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in Thoroughbred Club Stakes betting markets and is currently available at odds of $1.95 ahead of More Radiant ($5), Tawteen ($5.50) and Ygritte ($9.50) at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Will Earthquake justify favouritism and win the 2014 Thoroughbred Club Stakes, or will one of her classy rivals find the line in the clear?
Without doubt the standout two-year-old over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Earthquake is yet to hit peak condition over two starts this time in but is easily offered her best chance of returning to the winner’s circle in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes this weekend. Debuting with a comfortable win in a minor event over 1000m in November, the Exceed And Excel filly more than stamped her racing arrival when winning the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m) first-up before breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory in the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd. Continuing to impress when winning the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) before a close run for second in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th, Earthquake will leave from the ideal barrier 4 in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes and is as close to a sure thing as any this weekend.
London Lolly ($17)
Performing well in black type events over the autumn carnival, classy Team Hawkes runner London Lolly is also yet to figure in the winner’s circle since returning to racing this time, but is likely to receive the run of the race in the 2014 Thoroughbred Club Stakes from barrier 2. Finishing fourth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on debut before running a close second in the Quest Moonee Valley Maiden, London Lolly beat a particularly classy field to the line in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) on March 14th before repeating the dose in the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) on March 29th; beating a field which included the likes of subsequent Group 1 champion Go Indy Go. Having run fourth in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) first-up this time before a disappointing ninth in a minor last time out, the Hawkes’ are confident veteran Dwayne Dunn will get the best from the Charge Forward filly this weekend.
A strong and consistent performer over the Autumn Carnival, Ygritte is yet to string together much of a consistent run of form this time in, but offers punters arguably the best value for money in Thoroughbred Club Stakes betting markets at current odds. Running second in each of the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) in autumn, the Snitzel filly finished third in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) on August 30th but was unable to match the late pace of Hallowed Crown in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last time out, finishing eleventh.
